Instructor:
Ryan Rodriguez
Always an active
kid Ryan’s parents enrolled him in dance at 13, with the hopes of
guiding his high energy in a constructive way. As one of the four
boys enrolled as a competitive dancer at Studio West School of dance
(a Santa Cruz dance company now known as No Limits Dance) he
competed nationally and as with all competitive dancers at the
studio trained in Ballet at The Studio. After a few years Ryan was
recruited by an agent to start working professionally as a
dancer/actor, after a number of auditions for national commercials
he decided this direction was not enough about dance or movement.
With the limited number of male dancers in the studio, and no male
teachers there were few masculine role models for him to follow in
this world of movement bringing Ryan to seek change.
Ryan ventured out
of his studio and away from his agent at the age of 16, and has
spent the past 15 years teaching and choreographing Hip-hop through
out Santa Cruz county, including UCSC, Santa Cruz Parks and Rec.,
and the Dance Center, he later became the chief Break dance teacher
at No Limits Dance, and most recently has trained small groups out
of his home gym .
While teaching,
Ryan has continued to train himself in many forms of movement many
of which lend themselves to his uniquely eclectic and masculine
style of hip-hop and break dance. These movements include,;African
dance, gymnastics, yoga, popping, locking, flamenco, mountain biking,
rock climbing, surfing, trials biking, snowboarding, Jiu-Jitsu,
boxing and more extensively in Capioera and cross training. Ryan
brings all of his movements to his break dance style, and his
classes are a unique mix of a high impact work out, acrobatic break
dance, choreography and thorough stretching.
