There is much news to report
in these last few months, including the new Live Oak location and our
second location in Watsonville. The addition of World class boxing coach
Rick Noble and elite fitness pioneer, and BJ Penn trainer Gary Marinovich,
has deepened our coaching and trainer staff.
We have begun the new IMS
Health and Fitness programs including Cross Training, Integrated
Athletics, Yoga, Pilates and Dance. And lastly, IMS will be co-promoting
professional MMA events in Santa Cruz beginning in 2010 with Pure Combat,
and is currently working on final details to produce three such fights a
year. 2010 looks to be the best year in IMS history, so welcome to it.
New Live Oak Facility:
IMS has had a few homes in Santa Cruz over the last fifteen years, but now
we have what can only be described as the most elite martial arts academy
the greater Monterey Bay area has ever seen. 6,500 square feet of indoor
and outdoor training area is getting the finishing touches, and will house
the best team of trainers and coaches.
After a long and expensive
“shakedown” by the County, and Ledyard’s underhanded mission to acquire
our building through a plan of attrition, which started with reporting us
to the County for “intensification of use”, we have found our way to get
back business thanks to good consulting, sleepless nights and days by
Coach Burns, and extremely cool landlords. Thank you to all those who
helped with moral and advisory support.
Watsonville Gym:
Renowned Boxing coach Rick Noble and Boxing World Champion Carina Mareno
have welcomed IMS to teach MMA at their gym. For the time being classes
are being taught from 7 to 8:30 pm on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings. In
2010 the gym will relocate to a larger facility and IMS classes will
expand. IMS Watsonville at 1715 C, Freedom Blvd. Watsonville.
MMA Fights in Santa
Cruz: Along with long time IMS friend Al Joslin, the promoter of
Pure Combat fighting organization, we will be co-promoting the first MMA
event in Santa Cruz. Fighters from Santa Cruz will do battle with other
warriors in what we look to re-claim Santa Cruz’ place as a fight event
town.
New Classes:
Check out our new classes and staff under the Health and Fitness, and Yoga
and Pilates pages, and come check them out for a free introductory class.
Junior Monkeys:
IMS kid’s classes have been growing and gone through the third cycle of
belt tests. Congratulations to all participants, and an extra kudos to
those who won additional scholastic and home awards.
